Melissa has served as the Strength Coach and Physiotherapist for the professional running team Mammoth Track Club for the past five years. She has extensive experience designing and progressing strength programs for runners, as well as evaluating and treating running-related injuries, including bone stress injuries, tendinopathies, and foot dysfunction.

INo. Under California Direct Access law, patients can begin physical therapy evaluation and treatment without a physician referral. Direct Access allows treatment for up to 12 visits or 45 calendar days, whichever comes first. Continued care beyond that point may require a signed plan of care from an authorized medical provider.

Yes. Cash-pay services are available for patients seeking individualized care, wellness services, performance training, injury prevention, or services not covered by insurance.

Most wellness, maintenance, and performance-enhancement services are not covered by insurance. Coverage depends on whether services are considered medically necessary skilled physical therapy.

Melissa Alonzo, PT DPT
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Melissa Alonzo earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from East Tennessee State University in 2017. She began her career working in hospital-based sports medicine departments in Steamboat Springs and Mammoth Lakes before opening her private practice, Mammoth Physio, in 2021.
Melissa specializes in working with youth and mountain athletes, with a focus on running injuries, scoliosis treatment, athletic development, and return-to-sport rehabilitation. She is also an active volunteer with US Ski & Snowboard, supporting Olympic athletes in Snowboard Cross and Alpine Ski Racing.
Melissa is passionate about helping athletes of all ages build strength, move efficiently, and return confidently to the sports and activities they love.
